Position Profile

The Chief of Staff and Strategic Operations (CSSO) works closely with the President/COO and focuses on:

  • Special assignments/projects in support of the President/COO that are related to enhancements of business operations
  • Working across global operational functional leadership, as well as collaborating with HR and other G&A functions
  • Providing direct oversight of key projects as well as supporting President/COO communications
  • Driving operational efficiencies and enhancing day-to-day practices and processes for optimal decision making and collaboration across the organization including timely achievement of operating targets
  • Working across global operations to drive an environment of mutual respect and collaboration; working in partnership with HRBP organization re: optimizing organizational design and resourcing to drive One Jazz and to ensure that global operations function smoothly and are positioned to support multi-year growth objectives
  • Partner with the team to drive operational improvements that contribute to a positive employee experience
  • Assisting with integration and assimilation (due to acquisition, restructuring and reorganizations)
  • Operationalizing Jazz values (pursuit of excellence, innovation, integrity, collaboration, passion)

Essential Job Functions:

The CSSO supports the President/COO to drive operational excellence and execution across Jazz operations to achieve our corporate objectives and realize our growth plans.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Serving as an extra set of eyes and ears – keeping the President/COO aware of potential problems to be addressed and/or opportunities to be considered. Acting as a sounding board to the President/COO, providing insights and observations of interactions, issues, and progress throughout the company
  • Acting as an ambassador for the President/COO, supporting communication and participating in discussions including ones with sensitive or strategic issues to be addressed or decisions to be made
  • Preparing responses for communication including correspondence that may require the President/COO’s signature; at times, responsible for drafting preliminary reports and/or correspondence that would be considered confidential until finalized. As appropriate work in partnership with communication teams (IR, PR, Employee Communications) under agreed upon corporate communications process
  • Participating in President/COO Operations Staff Meetings and off-site meetings – driving meeting agenda/discussion topics, pre-meeting preparation and coaching.
  • Responsible for tracking action items and in some situations, gathering background information and any relevant history, preparing and providing a briefing to the President/COO, and/or creating and maintaining any necessary files. Depending on the type and complexity of the action, issue, or concern, responsibility for resolving/closing-out issue may be delegated to the CSSO
  • Supporting President/COO’s strategic initiatives (such as business solutions to drive operational efficiencies and growth) through presentations/discussions at EC, Board and other company-wide forums
  • Managing everyday operational issues/challenges at the direction of the President/COO
  • Driving operational enhancements as directed by President/COO and based on directional feedback from employees (annual survey & on-going feedback)

Essential Requirements:

  • An advanced degree in business or a related field preferred;
  • 10 or more years of experience developing, evaluating and/or managing significant programs and/or initiatives from concept through execution
  • 5 years or more experience working in a management/leadership and/or professional advisory role
  • Demonstrated experience as successful influential leader across matrix teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Judgment and discretion; integrity
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner to managers and executives
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Appropriate expertise in financial modeling and written presentations including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Passion for Jazz mission and values
  • Ability to travel globally as required
