    Position Profile

    Brief Description:

    The SVP, Corporate Development is a strategic leadership role with visibility across our Executive Leadership team.  This position is responsible for developing and executing key corporate development objectives that deliver exceptional and measurable results that add significant value to Jazz. Reporting to the EVP/CFO, and working cross functionally with EC members, this position will lead the team responsible for the identification, analysis, recommendation and then due diligence and execution of targeted products, pipeline and corporate transactions, in addition to overseeing and managing the Alliance Management and potentially Corporate Strategy teams.  The candidate will manage internal and external relationships critical to implementing the corporate development objectives and will play a key role in the integration of acquisitions and partnerships.

    Essential Functions

    • Develop corporate and business development objectives in support of corporate goals
    • Develop criteria for identifying acquisition targets that meet Corporate Development criteria
    • Develop and manage geographically diverse Corporate Development team in identifying and evaluating products, development stage projects and companies
    • Develop long term vision while balancing teams near term results
    • Oversee the development and maintenance business databases for business development activity
    • Oversee the sourcing and analysis of financial information of potential targets and the resulting valuations
    • Present recommendation to the EC and Board of Directors, as appropriate, providing insight into data, implications and attainment of corporate goals
    • Oversee and manage due diligence as well as all aspects of transaction execution from initial evaluation, market research to close in coordination with functional leads and external partners
    • Oversee the Alliance Management team and guide the integration teams
    • Leverage networks and external connections with key companies to  help assess the evolving landscape that will help drive future growth
    • Represent Jazz at industry conferences, potential investor/partner meetings and other similar activities

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Experience to include an increasing level of responsibility and management of staff demonstrating ability to lead high value projects.
    • Significant corporate development transaction execution experience.
    • Demonstrated success in a corporate development or related role.
    • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Proven ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner to managers and executives.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
    • Demonstrated ability to work directly with CEOs, CFOs and senior leaders
    • Refined executive communication and presentation abilities
    • Proven ability to lead, manage and develop talent across all levels within the organization
    • Appropriate expertise in financial modeling and written presentations and industry specific database tools preferred.

    Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

    • Ph.D. and/or MBA preferred  
    • Secondary degree with a combination of scientific and Finance background/field with excellent analytical skills.
    • 15 or more years of corporate managerial or business development experience in life sciences companies or life sciences investment banking.
