    Position Profile

    The Senior Clinical Programmer will be responsible for the provision of data review and trial management deliverables across all compounds and trials for which these are required, and for all functional groups that require those deliverables.


    Essential Functions

    • Program complex data review listings, exception reports, and metrics reports in a fast paced environment for clinical trial data review and management purposes
    • Liaise cross-functionally to understand the needs of the client of the work, and be able to train non-technical users in the efficient use of the deliverables
    • Develop software systems to generate displays of clinical study data and metrics reports that are efficient and user-friendly.
    • Assist clients by suggesting algorithms to address novel requests
    • Create and document archives of software and deliverables
    • Create any SOPs, Work Instructions, and process and training documents needed related to clinical programming and the required deliverables
    • Possibly oversee work of internal contract programmers and external vendors.
    • Provide time and resource estimates for project planning


    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Skilled in programming with SAS.  Knowledge of additional programming languages a plus.
    • Extensive knowledge of SAS macro writing and usage
    • Experience as a clinical programmer in supporting data review and trial metrics production
    • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple assignments and respond quickly to ad hoc requests.
    • Experience overseeing the work of internal contractors and possibly external vendors (CROs)
    • Familiarity with CDISC standards, including CDASH and SDTM
    • Solid verbal and written communication skills
    • Understanding of the drug development process and risk-based trial management concepts


    Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Life Sciences or other relevant scientific fields
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in developing software in a clinical trial environment using the SAS system, including at least 3 years of clinical programming experience


    Description of Physical Demands

    • Occasional mobility within office environment.
    • Routinely sitting for extended periods of time.
    • Constantly operating a computer, printer, telephone and other similar office machinery.


    Description of Work Environment

    • Work indoors in normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.
    • Frequent computer use at workstation.
    • May move from one work location to another occasionally.
    • Responsibilities may require a work schedule that may include working outside of “normal” work hours, in order to meet business demands.
