    Position Profile

    This opportunity is available in both Palo Alto, CA and Philadelphia, PA

    The Corporate Counsel, Human Resources will serve as an in-house lawyer on a broad range of employment law issues within and outside the United States.  This role will report to and work in coordination with the Senior Corporate Counsel, Global Human Resources.  A deep understanding of and expertise in U.S. employment laws are required, as well as excellent client service skills.  This role will involve substantial interaction with the Human Resources Department, and collaborative work with other departments as well as external counsel.  The Legal & Compliance Department at Jazz is highly collaborative and adaptive, so the position will also involve providing assistance and support across a range of Department projects as needed.   

    Essential Functions

    The Corporate Counsel, Human Resources, will be responsible for providing legal support in a broad range of employment-law related areas which may include the following:

    • Providing practical legal advice and support to the Human Resources Organization on a broad range of employment law issues globally, including assisting with domestic and international labor and employment law compliance.
    • Drafting or reviewing, as appropriate, employment-related agreements, policies and procedures.
    • Providing legal support and drafting and/or otherwise assisting with internal training programs including training relating to employment law issues.
    • Providing legal support on various compensation programs and issues, including incentive compensation programs.
    • In collaboration with Human Resources, determining legal parameters for and assisting with preparation and implementation of employment-related policies and procedures.
    • Providing guidance to the Human Resources and Compliance Organizations on certain routine employee relations matters, including internal investigations, employee counseling, discipline, reasonable accommodation requests, and assisting with employment-related legal risk management.
    • Potential employment law-related activities in connection with M&A and business development transactions (such as diligence, agreement drafting, integration activities).
    • Assisting with employment-related data protection and privacy issues, including GDPR compliance, in collaboration with data protection and privacy colleagues.
    • Partnering with Legal & Compliance Department colleagues in executing and enhancing corporate and department objectives.

    Required or Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • 5- 7 years  of in-depth employment law experience at reputable, highly rated law firm and/or as in-house employment counsel, including both employment litigation and employment counseling experience.
    • In-house counsel experience preferred but not required.  Experience in pharmaceuticals industry preferred but not required.
    • Willingness to develop expertise in employment laws outside the U.S. - past international employment law experience helpful but not required.
    • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage and work effectively with outside counsel.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle changing priorities and multiple projects simultaneously
    • Self-starter; able to take charge of projects and work independently
    • Ability to collaborate across varying levels of management,and to function well in a team environment and to motivate others
    • Sound business judgment and critical thinking and ability to develop innovative solutions, all while ensuring recommendations and actions are in line with Jazz values
    • Outstanding attention to detail
    • Ability to travel occasionally, including internationally

    Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

    • JD degree and admission to the Bar in either California or Pennsylvania (depending on location of successful applicant)
